Founded in 1983, the German Association for Marine Technology (GMT) is supporting the interests of German companies and research facilities in the area of offshore and maritime technology towards the public and the decision makers in politics and government. As of today, the Association represents numerous companies and research facilities.

The major objectives of the GMT at the interface between economy, sciences and the industrial application are initiation, support and coordination of national and international research and development projects. Another important task is the integration of resources, skills and expertises especially of small and midsized companies for the development of innovative products and services culminating in the development of new market segments nationally and internationally. GMT is also helping the member companies in marketing and cooperation.

The GMT is engaged in the development, the monitoring and the continuous moderation of the "German Dynamic Network for the Maritime Technology". It is focusing on continuously providing actual market information as well as preparing and realizing projects to develop sustainable cooperation structures. It merges and integrates existing regional networks in different German Federal Lands.

For well directing and effectively processing all areas of the maritime technology the GMT has established working groups. The GMT has appointed experts of the different fields of technology to manage these teams.

The GMT frequently invites to dinner debates and other events providing information on maritime technology. It is organizing meetings of its members with Federal and German Federal Land politicians to keep them informed on the world wide developments in Marine Technology and to justify financial help for the members own development of innovative technologies. It also represents its members with GMT community stands on national and international trade fairs.
